ABOUT PAPERSHADES
Papershades are unique flatpack paper lampshades invented by paper collage artist Rosalind Freeborn. Ros wanted to find a way to make her art available beyond a work on canvas. The concept may sound simple but it took a while for the idea to develop. Ros had to 'reinvent the wheel' - to create two sizes of wheels which can grip panels of paper at the end of each 'spoke' and make a lampshade which fits comfortably and safely on the average lamp stand or room light. Papershades now presents a huge range of designs all created by Rosalind Freeborn. 'I love using all kinds of paper to create my designs," says Ros. "The style is distinctive and fun, bringing original art into your home. Papershades will brighten up your room whether the lights are on or off!' |
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Rosalind Freeborn
'I’ve always been an artist but I just love working with paper. Whilst a student at City & Guilds of London art school I had a garret studio space of my own and learned to paint in oils. However, I also spent hours exploring ways of using paper in an imaginative and creative way. I love the look and feel of paper and delight in its amazing versatility. In the end, I started working entirely in paper, using thousands of fragments of paper like strokes or blobs of paint. I now use a variety of tissue, wallpaper, wrapping paper, packaging and pages of magazines to make my art.'
