The Lewis Carroll Papershade
Can there be a child on the planet who hasn't wondered what fantasy world might exist through a mirror or wanted to explore tunnels below the earth. Lewis Carroll understood what interested children and created the most fabulous fictional world for children of all ages to plunge into. I loved the books as a child. I think I loved the illustrations by John Tenniel more than anything - they were so clever, so surreal and yet so detailed. Well, this Papershade is my homage to Charles Dodgson and his remarkable books which have given generations of readers so much pleasure.
I do have a very tentative connection with Lewis Carroll. My Freeborn forbears lived in Oxford (where I was born and brought up) and my great grandfather's family were friends with the Liddell family. (Alice is based on Alice Liddell of whom Charles Dodgson was very fond). Well, one of my great uncles married a Liddell - cousin of Alice. Not a strong connection but I'll take it!
